YOUR PAST IS NOT YOUR FUTURE

Are you still thinking there’s future in the past? Get rid of such thoughts right now, because there is no future in the past. Focus your mind and eyes on where you are going, not where you have been. Think about great things that you can accomplish and stop recounting past failures. The truth of the matter is this: The past will always remain the way it is. Your dark past is not as bright and colorful as your future
Trying to change the past is like trying to fill water in a basket. It’s a waste of time. You can’t change your past but you can create a better, brighter and richer future. The more you look back the less you move ahead.  David McNally said, “ Your past cannot be changed, but you can change your tomorrow by your actions today.” Never let what happened yesterday swallow up your tomorrow.
Many times what keeps us stagnant and behind from progressing and advancing in life the mistakes, failures and obstacles of the past. Remaining a slave to the past makes our lives miserable and unidirectional. I have met people who are still trapped in their past achievements and successes. Instead of attempting greater goals they are still celebrating their old goals which have been forgotten. A goal achieved and celebrated is a finished goal. You need to put yourself to work on achieving greater goals. Sticking with the past makes people to live a goalless life. How do you know that you are living a goalless life? It is when you wake up every day and have nothing to pursuer or do. If your life is like this you have allowed your past success and achievements to become a snare. You have to forget the past and set your focus in the greater victory and goals ahead to be achieved. Thomas Jefferson said, “ I like the dreams of the future than the history of the past.”

Move on into greater things that God has lay in
store for you. Likewise, past defeats, failures and disappointments should not make you bitter; negative and stagnant. Shake off the negative past and move into a glorious tomorrow that awaits you. The fact that you had failed in the past doesn’t mean that you are a failure. Every mistake can be corrected by correction. God can lift you up from the miry clay and place your feet upon the rock. Rise up and go forward not backward. The future is ahead of you not behind. There is no future in the things of the past. Your past can’t equate your future. People who live in the past have no future. You need to let go off your past to have a future. The actor Ben Stein once said;  “ We don’t know what the future holds. But we can create.” You can create  and design your future to be brighter and colorful.

Many of the men that became great and mighty in the hand of God had a terrible past. Moses was a murderer who became a great leader. Rahab was a harlot who delivered a nation. Paul was a persecutor of  the saints. But God used him mightily.  Your dirty past can be washed and transformed by his grace not with disgrace. Forget the shame of your past and move into the fame of your glorious future.
What stopped you in the past can’t stop you now from living up your desired dreams. You can still make impact and a difference no matter what had happened to you in the past. As a Japanese proverb states; “Fall down seven times, get up eight times.” After he lost his feet to cancer, Terry Fox embarked on a cross Canada run called the Marathon of hope in 1980 to raise money for cancer research. His shuffle and hop running style took him about 24 miles per day close to a complete 26 mile marathon every single day with an artificial leg!
He managed to run for 143 days and covered 3,339 miles from his starting point in St. John’s, Newfoundland, to Thunder Bay, Ontario, where he was forced to abandon his run when doctors discovered cancer at his lungs. He died a few months later, but his inspiring example has left a great legacy till date. The Annual Terry Fox  runs are held in Canada and around the world. It is successfully raised about $340 million for cancer research. Terry Fox was never defeated by his past and physical challenges. He strived to make a difference in his life.
You can also make a difference in your life despite your ugly situation. Nothing can limit you except the limitation that you have placed upon yourself. Never give up because you were rejected in the past. You can still get that love of your life, that job and connection. It’s never too late to come true. The rejected becomes the projected! Don’t feel dejected
and defeated by past criticisms and rejections. Rejections shouldn’t determine your direction, destination and position in life. Enda Ferber said,      “ Living in the past is a dull and lonely business; looking back strains the neck muscles, causing you to bump into people not going your way.”
If you are going to be great. You must be ready to accept rejections as part of the success preparation, trials and test of yourself belief and how much you believe in your dream. Rejections are part of life. To get over rejection, you need to understand that rejection is a myth. It doesn’t exit except you give it life to exist. It is a simple a concept that you hold in your mind. It’s never too late to be great no matter how many times you were rejected. You can still be great if you think you can. Every great achiever who has reached the top had experienced one form of rejection or the other. You have to realize that you are not the only one to be rejected.
When Alexander Graham Bell offered the rights to the telephone for $100,000 to Carl Orton, president of  Western Union, Orton replied; “ What use would this company make of an electrical toy.” In 1998 Google cofounders Sergey Brin and Larry Page approached Yahoo! and suggested a merger. Yahoo! considered them to be too young. They insisted that the young googlers keep working on their little school project and come back when they had grown up. In five years, google had estimated market capitalization 0f $20 billion. George Owell’s animal farm was rejected in USA as story that will never sell. Novelist Stephen King almost made a million dollar mistake when he threw his Carrie manuscript in the garbage because he was tired of the rejections. He was told that his manuscript will not sell. He got frustrated and dumped it in the garage. Luckily his wife fished it out from the garbage. The manuscript was later published by another publisher. Carrie later sold more than 4 million copies and was made into a block buster film. Your rejections are your elevation, promotion and stepping stone to success. See yourself ideas as great ideas when they are rejected. See yourself as a great personality any time you encounter rejection. Give up staying in the rejection, mistakes and failures of the past and move forward towards achieving greater success.  Never give up on yourself and life. Your past is not your future. Paint a brighter picture for your future by forgetting about your dirty and miserable past.
Think less about your past or you lose your future. Think more about your future to get lose from the ropes holding you to your past. Make a decision to never regret and never look back. Your future is always forward not backward. You can’t build on your past but sink into it and never be seen. Charles Kettering said, “You can’t have a better tomorrow if you are thinking about yesterday all the time. Your past doesn’t equal your future.”
